Best IbizaBeaches

There is something special about Ibiza beaches. There’s the obvious stuff, like crystal clear waters; fine, sugary sand; and dazzling blue skies, but then there are some mystery factors that you can’t quite put your finger on. There’s a certain kind of magic that seems to linger on the sea breeze, for instance, and a dramatic backdrop characterised by pine-clad towering cliffs.

And then there’s the indescribable transition from day to night when the earth glows like molten embers and the horizon blushes through various shades of pink. Whatever beach you decide to spend the day at – and there are around 80 to choose from – we guarantee that you’ll be gripped by wonder within the space of a few hours. Let us take you on a journey that crisscrosses Ibiza to reveal a few of our favourites.

Cala Bassa

Undisputedly one of Ibiza’s most famous and beloved beaches, Cala Bassa has some of the softest white sand and clearest turquoise waters of anywhere on the island. Backed by an ancient pine forest and met by Cala Bassa Beach Club, which boasts four restaurants to choose from, this relatively short but picture perfect beach is beloved by families and couples alike. The shallows are great for kids to splash around in, while adults will enjoy an afternoon perched atop the sand on a sun lounger. The adventurers among you will enjoy the range of water sports on offer too.

Cala Conta

The neighbouring sandy beach of Cala Conta is a shining jewel in Ibiza’s beach crown. With fine, white sand and gin-clear water, it’s popular with visitors throughout the year but particularly in peak season, when you might find yourself fighting for sarong (and car park) space. Nevertheless, it’s worth the effort, because sun-kissed days spent here live on long in the memory. Stick around till sunset and you’re rewarded with some of the most staggering sunset views on all Ibiza. Pair it with a cocktail from Sunset Ashram and you’re officially winning.

Cala Gracio

A family-friendly option in San Antonio, Cala Gracio is the most-visited beach near the west coast town. The beach itself is short but deep, with a shaded area at the back that’s perfect for those who like to retreat from the midday sun and lots of golden sand. Otherwise there are lots of sun loungers available close to the water, and other amenities including a restaurant, snack bar, toilets, and some water sports facilities. The sun tends to set just out of view but you still get views of the kaleidoscopic Ibiza skies so it’s worth sticking around till dusk.

Cala Salada & Cala Saladeta

Located around a 10-minute drive north of San Antonio, sandy beach Cala Salada and sibling beach Cala Saladeta are postcard-worthy options for spending the perfect sun-drenched day. Cala Salada is the bigger of the two beaches, with a restaurant to the southern end and sun loungers and parasols places atop the sand for easy swimming access. Clamber across the rocks to the right though and it’s an altogether different beach vibe – Cala Saladeta boasts ice-clear waters, sugary soft sand, and a more adults-only atmosphere. There’s even a mobile drinks vendor delivering fresh mojitos directly to your sarong.

Cala Tarida

One of Ibiza’s largest beaches just also happens to be one of its most beautiful. Blessed with white sand and clear, shallow waters, this family-friendly beach is particularly beloved by families, primarily because they have no difficulty keeping the kids occupied. There’s an abundance of water sports to choose from including pedalos, water skiing and boat hire, as well as an array of restaurants and bars to dine and drink at. There’s something to keep everyone entertained at Cala Tarida.

Cala Xarraca

Nestled on Ibiza’s spectacular northern coastline, the cerulean, shallow waters of Cala Xarraca are perfect for snorkelling. Surrounded by lush pine forest and terracotta-hued cliffs, the stunning setting of this particular Ibiza beach makes it a favourite among locals who decamp here for the day, especially at weekends. For something different, head to the left of the bay and discover mineral-rich mud that’s said to be great for the skin – dive in and smother yourself in it!

Cala d'Hort

Claiming the title of one of Ibiza’s most beautiful beaches, Cala d’Hort is most famous for its spectacular views of Es Vedrà, the limestone monolith that juts out of the Mediterranean just off Ibiza’s southwest coast. Reached by descending a steep hill, you’re met by a well-kept beach, a handful of restaurants, and those famous coastal views. Don’t leave before sunset – viewing the day’s final show from here lingers long in the memory. An Ibiza beach you won’t forget.

Benirras

Located on Ibiza’s northern tip, Benirras is an island institution. It’s a popular sunbathing spot every day of the week but for an authentic Ibiza experience make haste for this particular beach on Sundays, when the island’s bongo player community congregates on the beach’s shores for a sunset drumming session. There’s also a market selling jewellery and wares from local artisans, and a few restaurants and beach bars.

Cala Jondal

Believe it or not, one of Ibiza’s most well-known beaches isn’t sandy – Cala Jondal is characterised by large, dove-coloured pebbles that are lapped by the bluest of blue waters. But if you’re visiting this particular beach it’s like you’re here for the beach clubs rather than the sunbathing. Home to Blue Marlin, Casa Jondal, Yemanja and Tropicana, this spot is overflowing with beach bars that will take you from day to night with ease. Just bring swim shoes if you plan on going for a dip.

Portinatx

There are three beaches in Portinatx, each one with its own character. S’Arenal Gros is the largest, and consequently the most popular with visiting families, then there’s S’Arenal Petit just a short walk away, and finally, Playa Porta, a small beach that has views of the distinctive black and white lighthouse that marks Ibiza’s northernmost point. Go for a stroll over the red-hued cliffs (the path is quite clearly marked) to get a closer view, or stick around for a drink at the beach’s tiny chiringuito.

Playa d'en Bossa

Home to a slew of Ibiza’s most famous superclubs, Playa d’en Bossa is possible Ibiza’s most famous beach. It’s the longest too, stretching to almost 1km of soft golden sand. Backed by countless beach bars and restaurants, this is where party-goers tend to make a beeline for both pre and post clubbing session. Head to northern end of the beach if you’re looking for a quieter day – this is where the most relaxed, luxury beach clubs are situated. Otherwise, buckle up for a wild seaside time!

Ses Salines (Las Salinas)

The original Ibiza party beach, Ses Salines has as much high octane energy now as it did decades ago, when people first started coming to the island to party. Iconic beach clubs like Sa Trinxa and Jockey Club are the place to be if you want to dance atop the sand, but there are other beach restaurants that have a more chilled out vibe, should you need it. Boasting a melting pot of people from all over Ibiza, this beach has to be experienced at least once.

Cala Gracioneta

This tiny, horseshoe-shaped cove is as pretty as picture. Surrounded by pine forest, this sheltered, small beach is always busy on account of its size but maintains a low-key vibe. Mostly frequented by adults who might retire to the sand after a long lunch at El Chiringuito Cala Gracioneta, the crystal clear waters are perfect for swimming, snorkelling and splashing around. Great views at dusk too.
