Sant Joan de Labritja is the smallest of the four municipalities on Ibiza, covering a total area of 121 km². It includes almost the entire north coast of the island. Where the hills of Sant Joan meet the sea, you will find a rugged coastline with cliffs. As a result, in Ibizan terms there are relatively few beaches.
The main resort in the municipality is the village of Portinatx, in the island’s most northerly bay. It feels very far removed from the rest of the island.
As most of the region, which includes the capital Sant Joan, consists of pine-covered hills, it is almost entirely rural and has a total population of fewer than 6,000 inhabitants.
Sant Joan is one of the most popular areas for those who want to get away from the hustle and bustle to enjoy the peace and tranquillity that the island enjoyed before the advent of mass tourism.
