One of the most enchanting rural villages is Santa Gertrudis (also known as Santa Gertrudis de Fruitera), located right in the middle of the island. The village is both buzzing and bohemian thanks to its hippy roots and cosmopolitan mix of residents. The centre of town offers plenty of things to do with healthy cafes, excellent restaurants, hippy chic boutiques and yoga studios. No wonder this rural village has become a favourite spot for both locals and visitors.

The quality of life in the village and it’s strategic location (right in the heart of the island), attracts many buyers from local residents, second-hand buyers and expats looking to settle down with their families. But this area attracts also many artists, yoga teachers and free-spirits seeking a more calm way of life.

The area is not overdeveloped, thanks to the strict planning restrictions, so Santa Gertrudis maintains a feeling of natural exclusivity. Surrounded by green hills and only a short drive from the north of the island, you will find stunning beaches – such as Cala Xarraca, Portinatx and Benirras (famous for its spectacular sunsets and hippie drumming on Sunday). Ibiza town is only 20 minutes away by car.

Santa Gertrudis is perfect for year-round living. It has an active community, the local primary school is renowned for its modern approach to education. Just down the road, there is Morna International College, the only school in Ibiza providing the British curriculum and examination systems to an international student body.

From an architectural point of view, tradition and modernity blend seamlessly together, new developments respect the existing style, this is important because the village maintains a cohesive look. Typical fincas fit comfortably with modern townhouses and apartments. The centre maintains its traditional heart while the outer streets host beautiful villas and the surrounding countryside is dotted with farmhouses and more contemporary villas.

Santa Gertrudis is indeed the perfect location, offering absolute privacy in a rustic setting, without being too far away from everything.
