If you are a homeowner in Ibiza, you probably know very well that even if winter in Ibiza might not be as much cold as in other countries, the high humidity and the absence in many houses of central heating, make the cold feel colder and helps the rising of damp and mould.
If you are new to the island you should know that traditional houses were not built with winter in mind, the main idea was to keep the interior cool during the hot summer months, with thick walls and small windows and a big open fireplace was enough in winter to heat up the place.
Things have now changed and most of the new houses are built to new specifications: insulation is now used to keep the house warmer in winter and cooler in summer and many new villas or apartments have the luxe of underfloor heating system or central heating.
But there are couple of more options available, especially if you are looking for some eco-friendly solutions. As Ibiza is one of the most sunniest countries in the worlds solar energy is a viable solution. Once you make the initial investment to have solar heating and solar panels installed, you have no additional costs. If you are interested in this option, we ca put you in contact with several companies implementing this type of system on the island.
Another option is pellet stoves. Considered more efficient than wood stoves, pellet stoves burn easily renewable resources (and easy to find!) like pellets, switchgrass and sawdust. In addition to using renewable or recycled materials that are affordable, the pellet stoves themselves are affordable. They are an efficient, inexpensive addition to your central heating system and will help you cut down the costs of your winter bills.
