Property in San JuanHippy flair at its finest
Longtime residents of the island still remember the mystical full moon parties, where hundreds of people of all nationalities danced under the stars in the mountains of San Juan. Those days are long gone, but the multicultural atmosphere has survived. Even before the full moon parties, San Juan attracted hedonists and bon vivants from all over the world, and in this sense nothing has changed: for those interested in alternative lifestyles and spirituality, this is a paradise. This community, once dominated by traditional agriculture, is now home to a range of agrotourism retreats which offer their guests rest and relaxation in natural surroundings.
San Juan in harmony with nature and people
In this charming village, which sprang up around the 18th century church, locals and foreign newcomers live in harmony. Added to this is the village’s architectural charm: whitewashed houses with heavy wooden doors, wrought-iron balconies and flowering plants line the main street. In San Juan there is always something going on, but the Sunday market is a particular social highlight. It offers a wide selection of local products and hand-made souvenirs, such as home-made “hierbas” (a local liquor), organic vegetables, dried figs and almonds, hand-made soap, leather goods, candles, jewellery, and much more. Live music ensures a great atmosphere. The biggest party in San Juan, however, falls on the evening of June 23rd for the midsummer solstice fire festival. At midnight, bonfires are lit to drive away evil spirits and welcome the summer.
